The Stockholm International Poetry Festival at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts

Lyrics and music is the theme of the Stockholm International Poetry Festival 24–28 November at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Innovative and original poets from Jamaica, Ukraine, Slovenia, Sápmi, Great Britain, the workshop and performance AKT UNG! and seminars about Danish and Swedish poetry are on the programme.

10TAL fills the halls of the distinguished Royal Academy of Arts at Fredsgatan 12 with new and established talents from all around the world. We invite you to a week-long festival with poetry, music dance and art.

»Lyrics and music« is the theme of this year’s festival, which is the 19th annual event. Since 1997, when Tomas Tranströmer inaugurated the festival together with the Flesh Quartet and the renowned Swedish actor Krister Henriksson, the festival has been a meeting place between international poets and leading Swedish musicians, dancers, actors and other artists in unique, artistic performances.

From the programme

This year, the Swedish poet, songwriter and musician Mattias Alkbergmeets, among others, the Swedish artist Skator in performances and talks about how they create lyrics and music. AKT UNG! is a performance with and made by poets between 16–27 years of age, held for the fourth year. New talents have read their texts here for the very first time and several of them have become established, gained stage experience and had their own tours reading poetry. They return to AKT UNG! together with completely new voices. The Ukrainian authors Kateryna Babkina and Andriy Lyubka, among others, meet the Swedish authors Aase Berg and Jonas Gren in a translation seminar, which will result in a programme with readings and talks about poetry in bad times, writing and translations between languages. There will be Chopin nocturnes, pop and hip-hop, modern dance, poets from the young Danish poetry boom with, among others, Signe Gjessing.

Between 24–28 November two institutions join each other, one old and one young, both independent in their work supporting the free arts and cross-disciplinary meetings. What happens when poetry meets dance? And what impact does the music – the most popular form of art in the world – have on the lyrics?

The Artistic Director is Madeleine Grive
